Plan (Planning) The purpose of the planning phase is to define the scope of the project and develop the framework, management structure and the methodology for the project. In addition, the Plan should address the following: The Project Plan defines the scope of the project and the project milestones, timelines, reporting, and may include the following : • Project objectives, goals, and deliverables • Project description • Work breakdown structure (WBS) • Timeline (development phases) • Critical path • Risk analysis The project schedule, milestones, objectives, and project management plan (PMP) should be included in the Plan document 48. Project Budget The purpose of the Budget is to specify the monetary resources that will be expended during the project and to determine the financial plan for the project. This section states the number of resources required, the work to be undertaken, the contractual costs, the team membership structure, the work prioritization, the funding source, and the total amount of funding. 49. There are different types of budgets for the project. The standard budget is based on the available funding (budget for services) to cover all project costs. This is the most common form of budget and often an external funder will create the budget. Other forms of budgets might include : • The Project Cost (for direct project costs) • A Task Budget (for specific tasks) • A Task Cost (for direct project costs) • A Project Cost (for all project costs
